GTK: What does new Minimum Wage change mean for you?

By January 27, 2011February 1st, 2022No Comments

The new minimum wage comes into effect from February 1st 2011.  This new rate of €7.65 will apply to any experienced adult worker.  What is an experienced adult worker? It is an employee who has any work experience in two years following their 18th birthday.

So what does this mean for you as an employer?

It does not mean you can simply reduce the rate from February 1st to €7.65 if your employees are currently being paid €8.65.

We recommend you learn more about the conditions of this minimum wage change as there are certain rules surrounding wage rate change and employee terms and conditions; in short it requires the consent of the employee.

However, it does mean that you can offer the new €7.65 rate to employees hired after the 1st February, but only if are not bound by any specific employer agreements.

Please visit this page on the Citizens Information site for all the details and see what it means for you.

All the best,
The Team at Jefferson
